Post:  Bar Associate - The Venue @ Moulsecoomb Campus

Hours: 8-16 hours per week during term time (Zero hours contract)

Rate: £12.21 per hour

Responsible to: The Bar Management Team

Contract date: From 28th April 2025 To 27th June 2025

Interviews: 4th April 2025 - via Microsoft Teams

Role

This position is only open to students studying at University of Brighton and will be responsible for providing a high level of service to customers and assisting in the smooth running of the service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general Bar duties (i.e. serving customers, dealing with customer enquiries, taking orders etc)
  • Help maintain a high level of merchandising by ensuring rapid and efficient stock replenishment and highlighting lines that need re-ordering
  • Undertake retail and customer service activities within the Student Union Bar to exceed sales targets, profitability and customer satisfaction in line with agreed practices
  • Provide a consistent level of customer service that is efficient, courteous and professional and in keeping with the values of BSU, reporting to management any issues that may compromise your ability to do so
  • Manage card transactions in accordance with company procedures and policies
  • Keep up to date on product information and availability and support colleagues with the promotion of special offers and new products
  • Ensure the standards set by Trading Post Coffee and other suppliers are maintained at all times
  • Carry out all cleaning duties, eg cleaning of kitchen and equipment, furniture layout, wiping down tables, fridges, etc, ensuring a clean and tidy working environment in accordance with bar standards and procedures and in line with Health & Safety Legislation
  • Abide by any further and applicable laws relating to the sale of food, hot drinks, alcohol, etc
  • Report any operational concerns, equipment faults and other relevant issues to the outlet’s management team in an appropriate and timely manner and in accordance with any relevant guidelines and procedures
  • Assist with stock deliveries, checking of goods and regular stocktakes in line with agreed procedures
  • Contribute to the success of the Bar by working closely with colleagues to build a strong team ethic
  • Open and secure the Bar and associated areas in line with agreed procedures
  • Undertake event support tasks such as moving furniture, selling tickets or artist liaison.
  • Any other reasonable duties that you may be asked to perform from time to time by the outlet management team

  • Passionate about delivering exceptional food
  • Previous experience gained in a catering environment is not essential but would be a distinct advantage
  • Understanding of how license venues operate.

Location

The Students’ Union covers all University of Brighton sites. This role will be based at our Moulsecoomb campus, with travel to other campus locations as required in the provision of the duties for the position.
