Department Overview
Brighton Students’ Union (BSU) provides representation, support and services to the 19,000 students studying at the University of Brighton, with a mission of Making Student Life Better. The marketing and communications team ensure effective and timely information is sent to and from students and other stakeholders across physical and online channels. This includes marketing commercial and membership activities, and gathering data and insights from members.
Role
The role will create compelling physical and digital visual content through photos and videos. They will also oversee the website content, ensuring it provides the information needed by our diverse student members. They will also assist with general marketing activities and promotional events, supporting the general activities of the Marketing and Communications Team.
Main Responsibilities
· Produce high-quality digital content (photos and videos) to promote SU events, activities and services.
· Create timely, informative and relevant videos for long and short-form platforms, including editing and promotional videos.
· Create written content for BSU’s websites, newsletters and emails.
· Upload and format content for the SU website, collating data and ensuring a consistent and relevant voice for students to access.
· Ensure all promotional materials are consistent with the SU’s brand guidelines and messaging.
· Work closely with the SU team and relevant student groups to understand event needs, develop content, and help promote campus-wide initiatives.
· Establish and maintain good partnerships with relevant SU departments, University departments and external partners.
· Support external media sales events, booking spaces and car parking as requested.
· Attend BSU events to provide live and recorded communications as requested.
· Support the Marketing & Communications Manager in carrying out other day-to-day duties as required, eg. assisting with producing training, guidance, policies, etc.
Communication
· Some detailed communication on related topics.
· Delivering routine training on uploading information to the website to colleagues and student groups as requested.
Decision Making
· Responsible for personal operational decisions on a daily basis.
Budget Management
· No budget management responsibility.
Staff Management
· No staff management responsibility.
General Duties
· Conduct yourself in a manner which adheres to the values of BSU at all times, displaying high standards of professionalism and service.
· Adhere to all BSU policies and procedures.
· Fully participate in your induction, personal and team development opportunities.
· Assist in key events and activities throughout the year eg open days, Freshers’ and Elections as required, some of which might fall outside of usual working hours.
· Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be expected given the qualifications and experience required for the role.
Location
This is an onsite role, and will primarily be based at the Moulsecoomb Campus, with regular travel to other campus locations as required in the provision of the duties for the role.

Knowledge
Proven understanding and experience of creating digital marketing, through photo and video content
Proficient knowledge of photography and video editing software packages
Experience in writing content for various digital and physical marketing tools eg. website, newsletters
Familiarity with social media platforms and content management tools
Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proven ability to edit photos and videos in a timely and effective manner.
Proven problem solving skills for routine issues
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands
Confident using Microsoft Office and other digital platforms
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and external partners
